Find your easy effort

A simple breathing check can help you understand how hard you’re working.

Start with your breathing.

The CDC’s talk test is a simple way to describe aerobic effort. At moderate intensity, you can talk but singing is difficult. At vigorous intensity, saying more than a few words takes a pause for breath.

A practical check.

For a session intended to feel easy, try saying a complete sentence. If it feels strained, slow down or take a walking break. Treat this as a practical coaching cue, rather than a precise heart-rate zone or fitness test.

Record the effort.

Afterward, note how your breathing felt alongside the duration. That gives your next session a useful reference without turning every run into a pace contest.
